Finally, after months of artist`s block, something clicked. Maybe it`s because I finally decided to relax, cut myself some slack and be less puritan about some "tricks" like the use of photos (mostly for practice reasons). It`s like, if one of my problems is in drawing proportions why not just help myself and document myself as much as possible on the world around me? Of course, I still don`t just trace over a photo, I construct, recreate, invent, combine, etc. But photos help me to "assimilate" the world and create an inner collection of images and knowledge that has already started to improve my "from scratch" drawing as well.
What I understand now is that the fundamental thing when you take a pencil to draw is to admit to yourself that you have no idea what the world looks like. You only have vague ideas and so if you don`t start looking around you`ll draw exactly that - vague ideas of things instead of vivid realities and stories. Same goes for proportions. Our brain is mostly (if one has not been an extremely visual person drawing a lot from an early age) totally used to rearranging things and changing the proportion accordingly to emotions and importance, I mean no wonder it took the humans MANY centuries to come up with the occidental prospective theory. So I decided to say to myself that it`s ok and natural to have a problem with proportions and concentrate on that. I might write more about this in the future.
I also got my first pseudo-pantone markers and they`re great! That has also helped me relax after years of inking with nibs and brushes in strict black and white!
I still feel inadeguate drawing-wise sometimes but that shall pass I hope, as I`m learning to enjoy the learning process and to express myself.

I can see some of you are still "watching" me here on deviantArt, thanks for your patience! I`ll try to get to reading and answering your messages etc. as soon as possible (I haven`t logged in here in a while so you can imagine the mess).
Love,
Perply
